In this workshop, we will explore in-field examples of how white-tailed deer and turkey habitat components can be incorporated into forest management plans. Specifically, while touring sites we will cover:

  • habitat considerations of white-tailed deer and wild turkey
  • how to incorporate habitat components into management plans
  • how to use silvicultural techniques (shelterwood, coppice, reserve islands, etc.) to create cover and forage
  • how to incorporate divergent goals (aesthetics, wildlife habitat, age class diversity, etc.) into management.

10:10 a.m. Travel by wagon to site 1
10:25 a.m. Site 1: Con-Ed Sale
11:15 a.m. Site 2: Otter Creek Burn Unit
12:15 p.m. Hot lunch at CFC
12:45 p.m. Travel by wagon to site 3
1:00  p.m. Site 3: Camp 8
1:45 p.m. Site 4: Capstone project site
3:15 p.m. Return to CFC and adjourn
3:30 p.m.Adjourn
