Description

Motivational Interviewing (MI), a collaborative conversational style for strengthening a person’s own motivation and commitment to change, has been shown to be effective in supporting the engagement and progress of individuals and families involved in child welfare services. This first self-paced online course will introduce learners to MI, including its history, spirit, principles, processes, and skills. This training is a prerequisite for the live “Motivational Interviewing (MI) Skills for Child Welfare Professionals: Virtual Workshops” course.

Prerequisite Requirements

You must have completed Child Welfare Foundations Training, ICWA/MIFPA Ongoing Worker Training, or ICWA/MIFPA for County Agency Supervisors before you can register for Motivational Interviewing: Self-Paced.

If you took Child Welfare Foundations Training or an ICWA/MIFPA training outside the MNCWTA Training Portal, please submit a help ticket with proof of training attached and MNCWTA staff will get you registered.

If you have taken Child Welfare Foundations Training (CWTA X100), ICWA/MFPA Ongoing Worker Training (CWTA X212), or ICWA/MIFPA Foundations for County Agency Supervisors (CWTA X216) through the MNCWTA portal, and have received a "complete" on your training record, you will be able to register. Please note: completion in any of these courses may take up to 5-7 business days to process in the system.

Supervisors, lead workers, or designated specialists within agencies who are designated to provide supervision to MI trained workers must complete training before workers, at the same time as workers, or within six months of workers starting training.
