The therapeutic yoga series offers a unique approach to yoga and is designed specifically for individuals seeking relief from specific patterns of dis-ease in both mind and body. Unlike regular group yoga classes at studios or gyms, this series focuses on creating ease and comfort by targeting specific areas of the body or patterns of the mind.

Each series consists of four sessions, each lasting one hour. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or completely new to yoga, all levels of experience (or no experience at all) are welcome to participate. The gentle exercises can be easily practiced in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

Series 1 - Reducing Low Back & Hip Pain: Thursdays, April 11, 18, 25, and May 2; Noon - 1 p.m. Central
Series 2 - Reducing Upper Back and Neck Pain: Thursdays, July 18, 25, August 1 and 8; 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Central
Series 3 - Pacifying Insomnia & Anxiety: Thursdays, October 3, 10, 17, and 24; 6 to 7 p.m. Central

All sessions take place live, online via Zoom. You are welcome to attend one or all three series. Recordings will be made available to registrants for one month, for those who would like to revisit the sessions or who are unable to attend the live sessions. Please note that registration will close one hour prior to the series' start time to ensure that you receive all of the necessary logistical details.

Say goodbye to the stress of traveling or comparing yourself to others. In the therapeutic yoga series, the focus is solely on your own wellbeing. Take a deep breath, tune into your body, and regulate your own nervous system. Join us and experience the power of mindful breathing and conscious connection.

Sliding Scale Pricing

The Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing is deeply committed to the wellbeing and flourishing of all communities. In order to make our programming accessible to a broader audience, we have implemented a sliding scale fee structure for these online series.

The suggested registration fee is $60 per series. We also offer a scholarship rate ($40) and supporter rate ($80) for those who would like to support others attending at the scholarship rate.

We do not want cost to be a barrier to participating in our programming. If you are not able to pay one of the listed registration fees, please reach out to us at mindprg@umn.edu. We will arrange for you to participate in the program at a reduced fee or at no cost.

University of Minnesota Wellbeing Program

University of Minnesota employees and spouses can earn 200 wellbeing points per session through the University of Minnesota's Wellbeing Program. Learn more about other UMN Wellbeing Program offerings through the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing.

Program Terms

The therapeutic yoga series includes skill training or practice in relaxation and meditation methods as well as gentle stretching (yoga) exercises. I understand that if for any reason I am unable to, or think it unwise to engage in these techniques and exercises, I am under no obligation to engage in these techniques nor will I hold the University of Minnesota liable for any injury sustained from these exercises.

Refund Policy

Series 2: Reducing Upper Back and Neck Pain

This series uses therapeutic yoga techniques to uncover the causes of upper back and neck pain and explore effective solutions to improve your daily routines. Our expert facilitator will provide practical practice ideas for stretching, strengthening, and relaxation.

By the end of this series, you will gain an understanding of:

  • Identifying the common causes of upper back and neck pain
  • Discovering lifestyle management activities to find relief and enhance your wellbeing
  • Learning specific stretching and strengthening exercises tailored to target the upper back and neck
  • Exploring powerful techniques to calm your nervous system, effectively reducing chronic pain through yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation

This series is designed to help you take control of your upper back and neck health by equipping yourself with the tools to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and experience a newfound sense of ease and wellbeing.

This series sheds light on the causes of insomnia and anxiety while offering practical strategies to transform your lifestyle routines. Our expert facilitator will guide you through practice ideas for stretching, strengthening, and relaxation, specifically tailored to alleviate these challenges. The sessions will provide an opportunity to restore balance, find serenity, and embrace restful sleep. 

By the end of this series, you will gain an understanding of:

  • Understanding the common causes of insomnia and anxiety
  • Exploring lifestyle management activities that promote better sleep and overall wellbeing
  • Discovering effective techniques to calm your nervous system, reducing anxiety and facilitating restful nights through the integration of yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation.

This series is designed to help you take charge of your sleep quality and mental wellbeing by pacifying insomnia and anxiety through the power of therapeutic yoga.
