Description

In this two hour workshop, attendees will build their understanding of:

  • What the positive deviance approach is
  • Why this approach is valuable in public health and health care settings
  • How the approach has been used to address common health care issues, and
  • What the future of positive deviance in research and practice looks like

Objectives

  • Understand the positive deviance research technique 
  • Describe why positive deviance is valuable in public health and health care settings
  • Provide examples of how this approach can be applied to address health care and public health issues

  • 1A2. Identifies quantitative and qualitative data and information (e.g., vital statistics, electronic health records, transportation patterns, unemployment rates, community input, health equity impact assessments) that can be used for assessing the health of a community

  • 1A14. Describes how evidence (e.g., data, findings reported in peer-reviewed literature) is used in decision making
