Description

The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program schedule consists of one orientation class (1.5 hours), eight weekly classes (2.5-3 hours), and one daylong retreat on a Saturday or Sunday (6.5 hours). This highly participatory, practical program includes guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices, gentle stretching and mindful yoga, group dialogue and discussions aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life, and daily home assignments.

Please note, you are still able to register for a program after the orientation session and you will be sent any important details from the session and connected with your facilitator prior to the first session.

Access to an online portal including audio recordings of meditation and mindfulness exercises is included in your registration fee, for your use in practicing outside of class.

Sliding Scale Pricing

The Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing is deeply committed to the wellbeing and flourishing of all communities. In order to make our programming accessible to a broader audience, we have implemented a sliding scale fee structure.

The registration fee for this program is $475. We also offer scholarship rates ($325-$425) and supporter rates ($525-$599) for those who would like to contribute toward making this programming accessible to all.

We do not want cost to be a barrier to participating in our programming. For those unable to pay one of the sliding-scale fee options available at checkout, we offer a limited number of further reduced-fee or no-cost spaces per section. These spaces will be offered on a first come, first served basis. Please email mindprg@umn.edu to learn more.

University of Minnesota Retirees Association members and University of Minnesota Alumni Association members can receive a 10% discount on the registration fee by selecting the appropriate fee at checkout.

University of Minnesota Wellbeing Program

Through the University's Wellbeing Program, UMN employees and spouses can receive 5,700 Wellbeing Points for MBSR. Learn more about other UMN Wellbeing Program offerings through the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing.

National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) CECs

This program is approved by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching for 29 continuing education credits (CE-000068-1). If you are not a NBHWC certified health coach, it is your responsibility to confirm that the program meets the requirements of your governing institution or credentialing board and that they will accept NBHWC CECs. NBHWC CECs are non-refundable and non-transferable. Credit for partial completion of a program may not be provided.

Program Requirements and Precautions

#1: The MBSR program may not be appropriate for persons experiencing recent grief or trauma, serious mental or physical health challenges, chemical dependencies, or suicidal feelings. If any of these apply to you, please contact the Bakken Center’s Community Relations Office before registering (mindprg@umn.edu).

#2: This mindfulness programming includes skill training or practice in relaxation and meditation methods as well as gentle stretching (yoga) exercises and mindful movement. If for any reason you are unable to, or think it unwise to engage in these techniques and exercises whether during the weekly sessions held by the University of Minnesota’s Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing or practicing on your own, you are under no obligation to engage in these techniques nor will you hold the University of Minnesota or the hosting facility, if applicable, liable for any injury sustained from these exercises.

#3: I understand that I am not to attend sessions under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

#4: The MBSR program is open to anyone 18 years of age or older and by registering for this program, you are confirming that you are 18 years of age or older.

Creating a Safe and Comfortable Environment Online

Please note, consistent with the in-person Mindfulness-Based Stress reduction (MBSR) program and curriculum, the online MBSR program focuses on experiential learning where participants gain awareness and insight through both completing the practices and sharing experiences in a supportive learning community. For the online program, you will engage with the facilitator and interact with other participants through your computer screen and video camera. At a minimum, please plan to have your video camera on during each session's attendance, group discussions, and breakout sessions. It is important for the psychological safety and wellbeing of the entire group that cameras are on during these elements.

In-Person Program Terms at the Pillars of Prospect Park

Mask policies are subject to change at the discretion of The Pillars, and by participating in the program I agree to abide by their current policy.
