Description

University of Minnesota Bee Lab and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are hosting a Midwest bee genus identification workshop. This five day workshop is from March 10-14, 2025 and taught by Dr. Zach Portman. We will be using Mike Arduser’s key to bee genera in the Tall Grass Prairie regions and greater Midwest where we will cover about 46 genera. We will cover other topics such as bee morphology, classification, nomenclature, and collecting. This key and other resources will be provided to you on the first day. Microscopes will be available. Please bring your own specimens and pinning/labeling supplies.

The cost will be $600. If costs prevent you from being able to register, please reach out directly to Elaine (elainee@umn.edu) to discuss options to enable your participation.

Lodging and dinner are not included in the cost of the workshop. You will need to make hotel reservations on your own. Lunches are included in the cost of the workshop. Registration must be completed by February 14, 2025 or others who applied and on the waitlist will be offered those spots. Email questions to Jessica Petersen at jessica.d.petersen@state.mn.us.
