EXT XEN.0021 - Beekeeping in Northern Climates In Person
Description
Topics include:
- Purchasing equipment and honey bees
- Hiving packages and installing nucleus colonies
- Choosing an apiary site
- Producing and harvesting honey
- Overwintering colonies in cold climates
- Identifying and managing diseases and varroa mites
The first day will be a classroom-based introduction to honey bees and beekeeping. The second day will be active learning demonstrations that reinforce the concepts. Due to the unpredictability of March weather, this course does not include live bee work.

Lunch, snacks, and beverages will be provided.
You will receive two printed booklets: Beekeeping in Northern Climates, Fourth Edition manual and our Guide to Beekeeping in Northern Climates. If you would like a preview, PDFs of the manual and guidebook are available to download for free.
