Financial Stewardship and Resource Management provides program managers with the essential financial acumen and practical tools required to lead initiatives effectively, sustainably, and with accountability. A core objective of this training is developing effective approaches to resource allocation across key program constraints: people, time, and money.
Participants will learn to apply proven techniques for cost tracking, forecasting, and headcount planning, enabling them to anticipate financial needs and make proactive, data-driven decisions. Upon successful completion, learners will be equipped to use financial data to guide strategic choices and support long-term program sustainability. By building these competencies, program managers will become proficient financial stewards, capable of optimizing resource utilization and securing the resources needed to sustain and grow their initiatives.
Course Outcomes
Learners will be able to:
- develop and manage comprehensive program budgets.
- allocate resources effectively across people, time, and funding.
- apply forecasting and cost-tracking methods to ensure financial accountability.
- design grant or funding proposals that align with program goals.
- evaluate financial data to support strategic decision-making and long-term program sustainability.
Course Format
This six-week course blends elements of asynchronous and synchronous components to provide learners with flexibility in project work, while also having face-to-face time with instructors and fellow learners via Zoom.
Each week learners will:
- attend one 90-minute Zoom, during which students will participate in discussions and workshop their project with the instructor and peers
- complete three–four hours of assignments or project work
Learners will be graded based on completion of assessed assignments/projects.
