Description

Create practical automations and apply AI solutions to support workflow improvement, systematically troubleshoot process errors, and manage data sensitivity.

Outline

Automations with AI introduce professionals to building functional automations and simple applications using AI solutions. Participants will learn to write effective prompts using structured frameworks, generate working automations, and solve real problems from their own professional domain, including file processing, data cleaning, and report generation.

Through hands-on projects, learners will analyze workflows from their own professional context, determine which tasks are best handled by AI versus kept in human hands and build their first working automation. The course develops foundational troubleshooting skills, teaching learners to treat errors as useful information rather than dead ends. Responsible AI use is emphasized throughout, including data sensitivity, professional accountability, and the ability to evaluate whether AI output meets requirements.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • build functional automations that accept defined inputs, produce correct outputs and solve real problems from the participant's professional domain.
  • apply structured prompt frameworks to generate functional outputs from AI solutions, demonstrating iterative refinement across multiple prompting strategies.
  • analyze professional workflows to identify automation opportunities and classify tasks as appropriate for AI or human execution based on data sensitivity, accuracy and accountability needs.
  • diagnose and resolve errors encountered during automation projects using AI assistance and systematic troubleshooting.
  • evaluate completed automations for correctness, data sensitivity and responsible AI practices, identifying areas requiring revision or organizational compliance review.

Course Format

This six-week course blends elements of asynchronous and synchronous components to provide learners with flexibility in project work, while also having face-to-face time with instructors and fellow learners via Zoom.

Each week, learners will:

  • attend one 90-minute Zoom, during which students will participate in discussions and workshop their project with the instructor and peers
  • complete three to four hours of assignments or project work

Learners will be graded based on completion of assessed assignments/projects.
