CERT X500 - Agentic Development
Description
Design multi-component applications using AI-powered environments, connect external data and run local AI solutions to secure sensitive department data.Outline
Agentic Development moves learners from simple automations into designing more complex tools and applications using AI-powered development environments where AI solutions works more independently under the participant's direction. Learners will learn to break complex problems into manageable pieces, understand how those pieces connect and direct AI through the development process by using built-in features that reveal what AI is doing so learners can guide it effectively. The course introduces connecting to external data sources, working with professional development tools and backing up work through version control to support workflow improvement.
Through applied projects drawn from their own professional domains, learners will address ethical considerations including organizational impact and bias recognition, and gain hands-on experience with AI tools that run locally on their own computer as a privacy-preserving alternative for sensitive data.
Course Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- build a multi-component application using an AI-powered development environment to resolve a defined problem from the participant's professional domain.
- deconstruct a complex problem into a sequenced set of smaller components with defined inputs, outputs and dependencies.
- document key design decisions made during the development process, including alternatives considered, rationale for choices and instances where AI output was revised or rejected
- assess the quality of a completed application by testing functionality against requirements, identifying edge cases and determining readiness for use or need for expert review.
- connect an application to at least one external data source to retrieve, process or display information from outside the local environment.
Course Format
This six-week course blends elements of asynchronous and synchronous components to provide learners with flexibility in project work, while also having face-to-face time with instructors and fellow learners via Zoom.
Each week, learners will:
- attend one 90-minute Zoom, during which students will participate in discussions and workshop their project with the instructor and peers
- complete three to four hours of assignments or project work
Learners will be graded based on completion of assessed assignments/projects.
