CERT X507 - AI in the Project Lifecycle
Description
Apply AI efficiently and responsibly to help guide decisions at every stage of a project lifecycle from initiation to closing.Outline
In AI in the Project Lifecycle, learners will learn how to integrate AI directly into the five phases of the project management lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Participants will be able to apply AI to the artifacts and decisions of real project work – charters, plans, estimates, risk registers, status reporting, forecasting, corrective action and lessons learned. They will also learn how to recognize where AI outputs must be verified, enhanced or overridden by human judgment. Emphasis is placed on the frequently neglected closing phase, where AI-supported documentation and knowledge transfer can deliver outsized value.
The course culminates in a final project in which participants will design, document and present an AI-supported project workflow and quantified business case (KPIs/ROI) tailored to their own professional domain, suitable for presentation to a sponsor or PMO leadership.
We recommend taking AI for Productivity first if you do not have experience using AI tools and prompting.
Course Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- apply AI tools across all five phases of the project management lifecycle.
- critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, recognizing the limits of AI and the essential role of human authority in project management.
- enhance communication, team coordination and leadership effectiveness with AI without diminishing the human dimensions of project management.
- leverage AI-powered analytics and monitoring for data-driven project decisions, risk management and corrective action.
- design and implement AI-supported workflows that increase efficiency, documentation quality and knowledge transfer.
Course Format
This six-week course blends elements of asynchronous and synchronous components to provide learners with flexibility in project work, while also having face-to-face time with instructors and fellow learners via Zoom.
Each week, learners will:
- attend one 90-minute Zoom, during which students will participate in discussions and workshop their project with the instructor and peers
- complete three to four hours of assignments or project work
Learners will be graded based on completion of assessed assignments/projects.
