Description

White-tailed deer can have a significant impact on the vegetation in local woodlands. Help the University of Minnesota Extension in a citizen science project to monitor how deer impact Minnesota’s forests.

Complete an online course and join us at an in-person workshop to learn about the impact deer have on woodlands. Instructions for completing the online course will be emailed to you the week of April 29, 2019. In-person workshops will take place outside to learn more about the data collection process.

To become a volunteer, you must complete the online course prior to attending an in-person workshop. Alternatively, the workshop in Cloquet on June 8 will cover both the online material in addition to outside time to learn how to set up monitoring plots and start collecting data.

This program is perfect for woodland owners, naturalists, and others with a basic knowledge of trees and plant identification. Participants will learn to establish monitoring plots in wooded areas and monitor the health of these woods through recording annual measurements.

This is a "flipped" course where students will need to complete an online course prior to attending an in-person workshop. We plan four workshops in June, 2019:
