This course is designed to train members of the lay public to become certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs). Successful completion of this course will make the student eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) cognitive exam.

While AHA BLS provider or ARC BLS for Professional Rescuer CPR certification is a prerequisite to course completion, students may attend an AHA BLS course within the EMT course for an additional fee.

In order to successfully complete the EMT course, all candidates must also complete the following online courses through the FEMA Emergency Management Institute. These courses are free and can be completed online. Ideally, candidates will complete this training prior to the first day of class, but it must be completed before the final exam. Completion certificates should be printed and brought to class on day 1.

On completion of this course, the student will be able to sit for the cognitive exam for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and become certified to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Minnesota.

Key Benefits

EMTs may serve on ambulance services, rescue squads, fire departments and hospital emergency departments. EMTs may also serve in special event locations, such as amusement parks, sporting events and concerts.
