Description
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is a broad and growing field of practice within public health which focuses on workers’ health and safety. Professionals in occupational health and safety serve in a variety of unique and important roles in keeping workers healthy and safe. Learners in this course are introduced to the historic evolution of this field, why and when these professionals are needed, potential hazards in the workplace addressed by these professionals, and the many career options available for these roles in the government, private, and education industries. Anyone interested or considering pursuing a career in occupational health and safety will benefit in enrolling in this course.
Objectives
The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to:
- Describe the professionals who work in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Identify types of workplace hazards addressed by these professionals.
- Describe the goals of the health and safety professionals.
- Identify types of programs developed to protect workers.
- Describe the places Occupational Health and Safety professionals work.
- Describe factors that lead to occupational health inequities.
- Describe opportunities and resources for exploring careers in Occupational Health and Safety.
