This course provides a framework for integrating environmental health concepts into professional practice.

 

Objectives

 

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Identify current issues and the role environmental health plays in accomplishing the goals of public health. 
  2. Identify environmental factors common to every setting that have potential impact on human health. 
  3. Outline a public health framework that includes priorities and strategies for intervention used in the practice of environmental health. 
  4. Describe local, regional, and national legislation addressing environmental health issues.
  5. Describe effective risk assessment, management and communication strategies for environmental health issues. 
  6. Describe the primary ethical tenets involved in environmental justice and the social determinants of health. 
  7. Identify the primary professional focus areas for environmental health professionals. 
  8. Explain concepts related to environmental health toxicology, dose, duration, pathway of exposure, and limitations of epidemiological studies in environmental health.

Competencies

The core competencies for public health professionals are a consensus set of skills identified by the Council on Linkages (CoL) between academia and public health practice as being desirable for the delivery of the essential public health services. The CoL competencies identified for this course are:

Domain 7: Financial Planning and Management Skills
