Description

This online training provides an overview of epidemiology, key terms, and examines the role of epidemiologists in public health practice. It includes some case studies and a discussion of how epidemiological studies are related to public health issues.

 

Objectives

After completing this module learners will be able to:

  • Describe the foundations of epidemiology and how it is applied in public health practice
  • Explain the origins of epidemiology
  • Define key terms used in epidemiology
  • Describe types of epidemiological studies
  • Outline the basic principles of data collection and analysis
  • Identify visual representations of epidemiological data

Competencies

The core competencies for public health professionals are a consensus set of skills identified by the Council on Linkages (CoL) between academia and public health practice as being desirable for the delivery of the essential public health services.
