Description

This course prepares physicians and other health care providers to care for immigrants, refugees and other mobile populations.

Estimated Time To Complete

Allow 32 hours, including additional time for bonus materials.

Objectives

This course enables you to:

  • Assess health care needs of refugees, immigrants and other mobile populations, with emphasis on treating diseases seen in new arrivals and long-term foreign-born residents in the United States.
  • Interpret key issues in local and global health equity, roles of culture in health and health seeking behavior, and how this impacts health outcomes for immigrants and refugees.
  • Compare effective practices in clinical care and health systems interventions designed to reduce disparities and improve patient care and health outcomes for immigrants and refugees.
  • Analyze patient-centered communication for advance care planning and helping patients complete US legal forms regarding end-of-life care.

This course is composed of six required modules, and one optional module:

  2. Clinical Issues in the Care of Mobile Populations
  3. Health Systems Issues for Mobile Populations
  4. Psychosocial Issues for Mobile Populations
  5. Cross-Cultural Issues in End of Life and Advance Care Planning (Honoring Choices Across Cultures)
  6. Clinical Case Vignettes
  7. Optional Career Information
