Description

Rehabilitators use several proven methods to handle raptors during the rehabilitation process, but the same basic principles apply to each method. Raptor Handling 101 covers the principles involved in handling raptors and shows you how to put these handling methods into action using techniques practiced by the staff of The Raptor Center. You’ll learn why recommended capture methods differ based on a particular bird’s energy level and why once a raptor is in hand, using slow, continuous movements in a quiet environment is critical. You’ll also learn handling methods for capture and restraint, how to obtain a weight, the best way to hold a bird’s head for exams and treatment, and how to apply a hood to even the most uncooperative hawk or eagle patients.

This self study is worth 0.5 self-reported continuing education credit.
