Description

This online course was created to review entry-level knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate and design interventions for remediation of upper extremity strength deficits. Topics include strength evaluation and manual muscle testing; evaluation of grip and pinch strength; and interventions to remediate muscle weakness.

AOTA Classification Codes: Category 1: Domain of OT: Client Factors, Performance Skills, Category2: OT Process: Evaluation, intervention, activity and occupational demands, outcomes. 

Objectives

  1. Determine when evaluation of upper extremity strength is appropriate and the best method for obtaining such data.
  2. Determine when muscle strengthening is indicated.
  3. Describe preparatory and occupation based interventions as a mechanism for improving strength.
