This course is designed for occupational therapy practitioners who are interested in learning about the role of OT in professional practice with clients with age-related Neurocognitive Disorders (NCD). The course will begin with an overview of contemporary OT theory, trends in reimbursement and culture and diversity. Next is an overview of client-and family-centered care with this population and ethical considerations in practice. By the end of this course you will be able to describe practice settings that support occupational therapy services for older adults with NCD for all stages of the disorder as well as evaluation and intervention strategies appropriate for each stage of the disorder. Learning activities include quizzes and case studies to apply the occupational therapy processes of screening, evaluation, and intervention planning through discharge for older adults with neurocognitive disorders.
Objectives
The learners in this course will:
- Describe neurocognitive disorders prevalent in the older adult population and impact on performance and participation
2. Apply the OT Process guided by the OT Practice Framework to evaluate individuals with age-related neurocognitive conditions using standardized assessments
3. Develop intervention plans based on evidence for individuals with neurocognitive disorders throughout the course of the disorder
4. Identify outcome measures within the domain of practice of occupational therapy for this population
5. Recognize continued competencies and resources in a specialty area of practice for NCD.

Prerequisites: Current or previously licensed/registered occupational therapists
