Research Methodology Consulting Center

Presented by: Ethan C. Brown, Ph.D.

  • Foundations and Applications of R (FAR): Tidying, Visualizing, Modeling is an RMCC four-week online short course to support social scientists seeking to develop new, or deepen their existing, R programming skills for analyzing social science data. No prior experience with R or any other programming language is necessary: we’ll start with fundamental concepts and practices to get everyone on the same page, and then dive into visualization and analysis.

  • Advanced FAR (AFAR) Grouped is a weeklong short course that provides experience working with nested, grouped data, and longitudinal data. We will use lme4 for fitting linear mixed effect models and generalized linear mixed effects models, along with useful data skills for nested and longitudinal data such as merging and reshaping. Prior experience with R (e.g., FAR) required.

  • AFAR Latent is a weeklong short course that delves into measurement and psychometric models, including latent variables and factor analysis. We will also cover data skills for working with ordinal and categorical data, rescaling, and related topics. Prior experience with R (e.g., FAR) required.
