Description

Trees and shrubs are long-lived, key features of our landscapes and neighborhoods that are essential to our local ecosystems and even our health and well-being. Because they’re so important, it makes sense to take time to understand not only how to work, but how to help them grow and thrive. If you maintain trees in your yard or community, or plan to plant trees or shrubs, the research-based information in this module is just for you! Learn online at your own pace starting in June, with the ability to ask your instructor questions along the way.

Objectives include:

  • Learning the science of woody ornamentals and how they differ from other plants
  • Understanding how to choose the right tree or shrub for the right space including mature size, soil and light requirements
  • Getting an overview of how to care for newly planted trees and shrubs
  • Learning proper ongoing maintenance and pruning basics
  • Scratch the surface of woody plant identification!
