Description

Dr. Elise Marubbio, from Augsburg University, will present this virtual workshop for community college and high school educators.

First Nations and Native American Film and New Media creators from across the U.S and Canada focus their creative lenses on the issues of Violence against women and land.  This workshop will highlight how films and New Media (games, animation, crowdsourcing for example) harness Indigenous experience, worldview, and cultural forms of expression to combat ongoing violence against Native/First Nations women and the land.  Our time together will provide opportunity to discuss pre-screened films: Obomasawin’s My Name is Kahentiiosta and Elle-Máijá Tailfeather’s Bloodland) and New Media (Erdrich’s Pre-Occuppied) as well as to explore ways in which Indigenous media can be used effectively in the classroom to support racial justice and combat ongoing violence against Indigenous communities. This workshop is intended for community college and high school educators.

This educator workshop  is part of the Institute for Global Studies 2021-2022 Collaborative, Seeking Racial Justice: Transformative Change from Local to Global
