Description

The Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA of Family First) has provided substantial reform to child welfare policy both locally and nationally. Family First’s goal to reduce the number of children and youth in child care institutions will be supported by the efforts of “Qualified Individuals.”

Family First includes new requirements for situations when children or youth are being considered for placement in congregate care (child foster residence, short-term residential shelter care, group homes, and residential treatment facilities). One of the new requirements is that an independent assessment be completed by a Qualified Individual to determine whether or not a child’s/youth’s needs can be met within their family or family foster home with community services rather than being placed in a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP). The Qualified Individual is independent from the county, tribal, or social service agency working with the child/youth and from the QRTP

This Training will prepare clinicians and community members to become Qualified Individuals, who are able to complete the Qualified Residential Treatment Program Assessment.
