This workshop teaches attendees an overview of subsurface sewage treatment system (SSTS) concepts in preparation for the MPCA Introduction exam. It is the foundation for all SSTS certification courses and is best completed as the first workshop in any series. Enrollment in this workshop includes a copy of the Manual for SSTS Professionals in Minnesota.

The following materials are required for online class participation:

Per Minnesota law 169.475 - USE OF WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE, driving is not allowed during the Zoom lecture. Students will not receive credit for time spent driving, and may be removed from class until they are in a safe location to rejoin.

  • An internet connection (broadband wired or wireless, with 600kbps down)

  • A computer with speakers and a microphone (built-in or USB plug in, or wireless Bluetooth)

  • A webcam (either built-in to the computer, or USB plug-in)

  • An individual guest account at learning.umn.edu (can be created during the registration process)

  • A valid shipping address

  • A valid picture ID

These online classes DO NOT include the MPCA certification exam. The exam will still need to be taken, in-person. More details will be shared during the class.

Please note:  These classes will be accredited as required training ONLY (i.e., it is a pre-certification class). There will be no continuing education credits offered for these online courses. 

In the event you cannot attend, please read the below information:

Transfers/Substitutions:  Transfers between classes and attendee substitutions will not be accepted.  The original registration must be cancelled (see below) and a new form or online enrollment submitted.

Cancellations: All cancellations must be received in writing by OSTP staff (septic@umn.edu) by two weeks before the start date in order to receive a refund. Refunds are only issued for cancellations received via email to septic@umn.edu by this date. All refunds will be made in the same manner as payment minus a $30 cancellation fee. Cancellations received after that date will forfeit their registration fee in full.
