Important notes:
- Please complete the Parent/Guardian Agreement before your scheduled testing date. This is required for every registrant/testing session.
- Please make sure you register your child/children using your previously created Family Account.
- Tablets (iPads, Chromebooks, etc.) and phones cannot be used for online testing.
- Please be sure to check the Spam folder in your email, and add donotreply@umn.edu and mstp@umn.edu to your "Safe Senders" list to receive your email confirmation and other critical information about your testing session.
- Please note the CogAT testing sessions takes place on Thursdays.
Registration deadlines:
- Registration closes 7 days prior to the start of the test event.
- Registrations can be dropped/canceled free of charge up to 7 days prior to the event. Registration drop/cancellation less than 7 days before the event will incur a $10 administrative fee. To drop a registration please follow the Dropping a Registration Guide.
- Registrations can be rescheduled free of charge up to the day before the test event. To reschedule your registration you must contact our office (mstp@umn.edu or 612-626-1803).

Objectives
CogAT measures students in three areas:

Verbal: abilities to reason with words and concepts. These play an important role in reading comprehension, critical thinking, writing, and virtually all verbal learning tasks

Quantitative: abilities to reason with quantitative symbols and concepts, These are significantly related to problem solving in math and other disciplines

Nonverbal: abilities to reason with geometric shapes and figures. These reflect strategies for solving novel problems
