Raptor Ambassador Care and Training, Part 2:  Putting Principles into Practice

This 2.5 day hands-on workshop hosted at The Raptor Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota will provide students the opportunity to put the raptor handling, training, husbandry and first-aid principles learned in RACT Part 1 into practice. Attendees will have the chance to observe and work with our medical staff as well as interact directly with our educational ambassador birds to hone their skills.

Activities and topics of this hands-on workshop include:

  • Ambassador bird handling
  • Operant training
  • Beak coping
  • Equipment application
  • Conducting physical exams
  • Applying basic bandages
  • Giving subcutaneous fluids
  • Includes taking a peek inside the amazing body of a raptor (necropsy)

Prerequisite: completion of RACT Part 1, Knowledge building in our Virtual Classroom.

Please note that this workshop will only be held if there is sufficient interest. If there is not sufficient interest, participants will be notified and refunded. We strongly recommend purchasing refundable plane tickets in the event that the course is postponed.

A free hotel shuttle will bring attendees to/from the hotel from The Raptor Center.  

Lunch and snacks will be provided by The Raptor Center the days of the workshop, attendees will be responsible for breakfast and dinner.
