Description

The need for public health professionals has never been greater. But what is "Public Health" anyway? This interactive game will introduce you to the world of public health as you help discover the source of the outbreak that has hit the small community of Watersedge and stop it before more residents get sick.

Educators can use the Teacher's Guide for ideas on incorporating the game into classes.

Objectives

The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to:

  1. Identify specific jobs within the career field of public health; and
  2. Describe the steps of an outbreak investigation.

Competencies

For CPH certification, the following competencies may be met:

  • Domain 1: Data Analytics and Assessment Skills
    • 1.3. Collects quantitative and qualitative data
    • 1.8. Assesses community health status
  • Domain 6: Public Health Sciences Skills
    • 6.2. Applies public health sciences (e.g., biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health, health services administration, social and behavioral sciences, and public health informatics) in delivering the 10 Essential Public Health Services
    • 6.3. Uses evidence in developing, implementing, evaluating, and improving policies, programs, and services
  • Domain 7: Management and Finance Skills
    • 7.10. Applies critical thinking in decision making
