Online Workshop

Target Audience: This workshop is designed exclusively for language program coordinators of ESL, world language, and dual language immersion programs in K-12 Minnesota schools. The workshop is not appropriate for coordinators from outside Minnesota or from postsecondary contexts.

In this workshop, Minnesota language program coordinators will learn the three “whys” and seven “hows” leaders need to know when they are administering English Language (EL), World Language (WL), or Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs. These key principles will support language program coordinators in creating a comprehensive, student-centered language program that is research-based, rooted in best practice, engages families, and is focused on equity. Resources and learning activities will be differentiated for participants’ different roles and program models.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • describe key research, legislation, and advocacy goals related to their EL, WL, or DLI language program in Minnesota;
  • implement and evaluate their program models and curriculum resources;
  • attract, mentor, and coach teachers on instructional strategies and assessment practices for language acquisition; and
  • identify the key principles in creating a comprehensive, student-centered language program that is research-based, rooted in best practice, engages families, and is focused on equity.
