Description

PhDs offer an array of opportunities within higher education, many of which remain hidden beyond the more-articulated path to the professoriate. What kinds of paths are available to PhDs, and how do you find the best fit for your skills and interests? How do you make career decisions that center your values, interests, and needs? What are the benefits and challenges of these multiple paths through academia?

In this panel discussion, contributors to the new book, Higher Education Careers Beyond the Professoriate (HECBP, Purdue UP 2024), will share their experiences following a range of paths within and through higher education, especially how they sifted through possibilities to arrive at their current careers. Participants are encouraged to bring questions, and ample time for discussion will be included in this 90-minute session.

Panelists: Dr. Sarah Barks (Biological Anthropology); Dr. Alyssa Canelli (English); Dr. Kristine Sikora (Cellular and Molecular Biology); Dr. Diedra Wrighting (Genetics). Facilitated by Dr. Clare Forstie (Sociology). You can find more information about the panelists here.

If you require any accommodations, please contact Dr. Aimzhan Iztayeva at iztay001@umn.edu, who serves as an access coordinator.
