Description

Theories, concepts, and ethical decision-making models are introduced and applied to supervision case studies involving ethical dilemmas (e.g., misconduct, boundary violations, dual relationship, social media, telemedicine) drawing from multicultural practice settings.  Vital competencies, qualities, and responsibilities of ethical clinical supervisors are built through self-reflection about how cultural identities, power, and privilege may inform ethical thinking and behavior in the supervisory relationship, and applying decision-making models, particularly those that prioritize stakeholder power sharing and awareness of bias.

Objectives

After completing this workshop participants will be able to: 
  • Reflect on how identities and power have influenced one's personal ethical principles and moral compass
  • Understand characteristics, roles, and responsibilities of ethical and competent supervisors
  • Understand basic terms, concepts, and theories in ethics
  • Recognize components of various professional codes of ethics
  • Understand and apply ethical decision-making models, particularly those rooted in transcultural and feminist models, to practice cases
