Description

  • Institute Type: 5-day online—synchronous
  • Target Audience: new K-12 DLI educators of all languages

This institute is designed for future or new educators, instructional coaches and administrators in K-12 Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs, including one-way, two-way, indigenous, and developmental bilingual schools. Presenters and guest speakers will explore the three foundations of DLI instruction: 1) bilingualism/biliteracy; 2) academic achievement in two languages; and 3) intercultural competence PLUS critical consciousness (Three Pillars PLUS). Participants will review aspects of well-implemented programs, including the ten power strategies of DLI.

Collaboratively, the group will review instructional practices that integrate language and academic content, including the CAPA sequence (Tedick & Lyster; 2020) and the Bridge/Biliteracy Unit Framework (Beeman & Urow, 2012). The week will include Q & A sessions with practicing DLI educators and administrators, culminating with an interactive personalized “best practices” showcase.
