Description

In this session we will roll up our sleeves and dig in! We will discuss current scholarship that highlights pedagogies (e.g., intercultural pedagogy, culturally sustaining, playful pedagogy) aimed at valuing and amplifying diverse voices and experiences in order to realize the true potential of our diverse classes. Participants will be provided with a selection of readings to read ahead of the session. Please come ready to discuss and consider ways you might put some of this to into practice.

This webinar is co-facilitated in partnership between Internationalizing the Curriculum and Campus (ICC) and the Minnesota English Language Program (MELP).

This webinar falls under the following themes:

  • Theoretical Foundations for Teaching in Globally Diverse Classes

  • Inclusive Learning Communities: Integration, inclusion, and community building in the Classroom

  • Intercultural Interaction: Developing important skills and attitudes

  • Supporting Multilingual Learner: Engaging & embracing linguistic diversity

 

Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will:

  • Wrestle with what pedagogy means and how it impacts their work
  • Connect with colleagues to explore a selection of pedagogies aimed at valuing and engaging diversity
  • Explain the importance of intentionality around pedagogy
  • Identify one new idea to try out or learn more about
