Description

University of Minnesota researchers are strongly motivated to bring their breakthrough innovations to market but lack business expertise. Carlson School of Management MBA and MS students are business-savvy leaders, many of whom are seeking meaningful entrepreneurial experiences. Combining these talents and skills can help bridge the gap between the lab and the market. MIN-Corps Fellows is the Carlson School’s response to researchers seeking help to define and develop the business potential of their innovations.

Outline

Sci Pitch – An online event where innovators share their business concepts with Carlson MBA and MS students. Innovators will pitch projects and explain how Carlson grad students can help in areas such as voice of the customer, market assessment, financial modeling, business model design, or competitive analysis. Carlson students will then circulate virtually among the innovators and discuss how they could add value.

Team Formation – Carlson students apply to collaborate with innovators, who will work with MIN-Corps staff to construct project teams. MIN-Corps Fellows will be required to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements upon team acceptance. The teams will then meet to develop a work plan for the spring semester. MIN-Corps fellows are strongly encouraged to enroll in MGMT 5102 STARTUP to get ongoing faculty advice and course credit for their work.

Collaboration – Throughout the spring semester, preferably within the context of the MGMT 5102, MIN-Corps Fellows teams work with the innovators to address relevant business issues (marketing, financial, operational, etc.).
