Description

This course provides training for managers of equine exhibitions in Minnesota as part of a pilot program for 2024. The goals of the pilot program are to respond to concerns of the Minnesota horse show industry while meeting the Minnesota Board of Animal Health’s (BAH) mission of protecting the health of domestic animals through education and cooperation with stakeholders.

The course aims to help managers more confidently meet state requirements and hold exhibitions that are safe for the horses and attendees. The three modules within this course will cover the responsibilities of equine exhibition managers, requirements for horses to be exhibited, and how to apply for exhibition permits. The training is self-paced with each module expected to take 30 minutes to complete. Successful completion of this course will result in a certificate valid through January 1, 2025. Managers can use this certificate to support a rule variance petition for MN Administrative Rule 1721.0100, Subpart 4. To receive a certificate, participants must answer 80% of course quiz questions correctly.

This course has been developed in collaboration with the Minnesota BAH and University of Minnesota Equine (UMN) Extension Program. BAH is the regulatory body responsible for protecting the health of domestic animals in Minnesota and UMN Extension provides educational resources throughout the state.
