Description

Assumptions and bias about body size- and the cultural messages that reinforce them- shape access, belonging, and how we value ourselves and others. This course introduces the framework of fat liberation and invites participants to explore how body norms show up in our language, expectations, and institutional practices. We will examine the history and evolution of size-justice movements, as well as emerging legal and policy protections for people experiencing size bias.

Through guided self-reflection, storytelling, and dialogue, participants will explore how internalized beliefs about body size influence behavior and decision-making in classrooms, workplaces, and community spaces. The course emphasizes fostering cultures where people of all sizes feel respected, affirmed, and able to fully participate.
