Long term care leaders face complex, people-centered challenges every day, and the most effective ones know how to lead with both heart and purpose. Long Term Care Leadership is a six-week, practice-focused course designed for long term healthcare professionals who are ready to grow into more confident, impactful leaders. This course offers a hands-on exploration of the core leadership competencies that elevate effectiveness: emotional intelligence, inclusivity, and change management.

Using real-world examples and practical tools you can apply immediately, you’ll explore the unique challenges of healthcare workplaces and build strategies for leading people and teams with clarity and compassion. You’ll learn how to apply emotional intelligence, foster inclusive environments, and guide teams through organizational transitions, all within the context of a dynamic and mission-driven healthcare environment.

Whether you’re leading a department, supporting a multidisciplinary team, or preparing for greater responsibility, you’ll leave this course with actionable skills that enhance collaboration, improve outcomes, and support equitable access and well-being in your organization.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Course Format

This six-week course blends synchronous and asynchronous components to provide flexibility for working professionals while building community and peer support. 

Each week, learners will:

  • Attend one 90-minute live Zoom session to engage in discussion, reflection, and interactive activities.
  • Complete three to four hours of assignments or project work, including readings, journaling, and applied exercises.
  • Receive instructor feedback and collaborate with peers on real-world leadership challenges.

Learners will be assessed through a final project that demonstrates integration of course concepts in their own professional context.

To participate in this course, learners will need access to a computer, laptop or other device with the ability to use Canvas and Zoom
