Description

This interactive hands on course is designed for those who want to develop their skills as educators in online and hybrid environments.  The course will begin with some brief online preparatory activities, then participants will come to campus for a 5 day in person mentored experience. Over the course of the 5 days, participants will learn principles of online and hybrid course design and teaching as well as technology and resources for creating engaging learning activities. Participants will apply this knowledge daily in mentored lab experiences where they will design and create a learning module about a topic of their interest. At the end of the seminar, each participant will have a e-portfolio of their work to take. In addition, participants will have access to the course platform for one year so they can go back to it to review their work, show others, etc.  Participants who successfully complete the course will receive 3 AOTA approved Continuing education Units (30 contact hours).

Note: This workshop will be held at the University of Minnesota Rochester campus. 

Objectives

1. Demonstrate understanding of the course development process for online, hybrid and face to face delivery models as evidenced by successful identification of the principles of best practice for each.

2. Identify learning activities appropriate for each type of delivery model.

3. Apply the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) design process to develop an online learning module in an area of content of interest to the participant.

4. Demonstrate the ability to use a variety of online teaching tools to facilitate learner engagement.

5. Build and evaluate learning activities for both online and face to face environments related to the content of the module of interest to the participant.

6. Experience a common learning platform with a variety of online activities from the student perspective to help analyze them from the designer perspective.

7. Leave the course with an e-portfolio of examples of the learning objects and activities created around content of interest during the week. Participants will have access to the course platform for one year to review and analyze their work and show others.
